What is Active Release Technique (ART)

Active Release Technique, often known under its acronym ART, is a method that treats the soft tissue in the body. First used by Dr. P. Michael Leahy more than 30 years ago, ART combines movement and manipulation techniques to alleviate specific soft tissue symptoms in certain parts of the body.

How does Active Release Technique work?

ART breaks up dense tissue in the body (medically known as “adhesions”) that is often the result of scar tissue following an injury. When you have scar tissue, your muscles are “bound” together and your flexibility, movement, and agility are all severely limited.

In addition to this, you may also experience stiffness and pain in the affected joints, muscles, and even nerves, which can become entrapped.

By gently manipulating the soft tissue and breaking up the adhesions, you will slowly, safely, and effectively be able to move the affected part of the body again.

What conditions does it treat?

Active release technique is a great way to treat a variety of conditions, including:
